Going through life on autopilot or allowing yourself to feel like your days are drifting away can be soul-sucking. When you want to be happy and really enjoy your life, it’s important to make the most of it. And if you set daily intentions, you can make this happen. Let’s take a look at why and exactly how you can do it.

A Successful Start

Do you usually snooze your alarm in the mornings, drag yourself out of bed, and rush around before heading out the door? And, as a result, does your day seem a little crazy? There is a direct correlation between the two. So instead, you may find that being more intentional can set your day up right.

A successful start can make such a huge difference to your day. When you incorporate intention-setting into your morning routine, you may find that you’re more mindful throughout the day – and you actually start to enjoy it too.

How To Set Daily Intentions

You know you need to be more intentional and take your life into your own hands, but you’re not sure how. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be this big crazy process that you go through. Instead, you can make it happen with just one (or a few) small actions.

Be Mindful

When you set daily intentions, you’re essentially deciding how you want your day to go before it happens. The idea here is that you’ll be able to think, feel, and act in line with the intentions you set. So, how better to get started with that than when you’re waking up.

The moment you start to stir in the morning, be mindful. Take a few moments to visualise your day in your mind. How do you want it to go? What do you want to accomplish? How do you want to feel? This is so small but it can be really powerful and allow you to act in ways that feel your intentions.

Avoid Technology

It’s natural to want to grab your phone the second you wake up. So many people do it. But this action isn’t serving you. Scrolling can be draining. Consuming information can be stressful. So, don’t let your mind or judgement to be clouded right off the bat and leave technology alone for thirty minutes or an hour.

Practice Gratitude

Right now you’re thinking – what am I going to do without my phone first thing? Well, instead of letting your brain get bogged down, energise it. One of the most amazing activities you can add to your daily routine is practicing gratitude. By listing a few different things that you’re grateful for, you not only feel good, but you start to become more present to look for the things you’re grateful for too.

Meditate

Meditation can be so incredibly powerful for several reasons. One of which is the influence on your day. If you want to ensure that you are creating a successful day, calming the mind can really help you to get into the frame of mind for that to happen. It’s all about being a present as possible and not allowing yourself to be on autopilot.

Write In Your Journal

When you want to set daily intentions, it can help you if you write them down. Writing in your journal can help you to get everything out of your mind. It will also allow you to feel a lot more clarity about what you want to achieve and how you want to spend your day.

Check-In With Your Goals

Setting intentions for your day should always tie into your goals. We all have goals in life. Even if you’ve never formally worked them out, there will always be certain things you want to do with your life. Ideally, you want to be working towards them daily – even in the smallest of ways. So, your daily intentions will want to align with your life goals in some way.

Focus On How You Feel

Whether you realise it or not, your feeling and emotions drive the way. When you’re on autopilot, you may find that you are driven by more negative emotions. Yet, when you are looking to be more intentional with your day, it helps to focus on how you feel. Rather than just writing a to-do list or letting yourself get stressed out, tuning into how you’re feeling can help you to make more aligned decisions for your day.

Start The Night Before

If you really want to make sure that your morning is a success, begin the night before. A rushed evening can lead to a chaotic night’s sleep. And that will always affect your day. Slowing down, unwinding, and setting your intentions for the next day can help you to wake up feeling bright, motivated, and ready to take the day on.

Hold Yourself Accountable

Finally, if you want this exercise to take you somewhere, you’ll want to hold yourself accountable. As you set daily intentions, they need to lead to something. A balanced mind, a future goal, accomplishing a task – whatever it may be, there should be an end goal. And so, it’s useful for you to be able to check in with yourself and see how things have worked out.

Reflecting in the evening, journaling for a second time, or even recapping weekly or monthly could work perfectly. That way, you’ll know that your daily intention setting process is really adding value to your life.
