At this time of the year, it’s all too easy to feel a little low. The weather is at its worse, the days are far too short, and hibernation mode is kicking in. And as a result, it’s safe to say your motivation is at an all-time low. But that doesn’t mean you have to let the winter blues set in. Instead, it’s time to go all-in at feeling good in winter.

While everything can feel like such an effort at this time of the year, feeling good in winter doesn’t have to be. Luckily for us all, these six suggestions feel like the ultimate treat.

Get Enough Sleep

So, you want to hibernate this month? Then do it. One of the best ways to feel good during the colder months is to sleep. When you sleep, your body heals. And it’s exactly what your body is asking for. So, give in to it. Rest in the evenings and wind down well before bed. Enjoy an early night and aim for at least seven to eight hours of sleep. You’ll feel so much more revived and energised come morning.

Nourish Your Body

When you’re feeling blue, beat it with a bit of killer nutrition. Nothing beats nourishing your body. And the best way to start feeling good in winter is to treat with what you eat. This doesn’t mean you have to go super clean and cut out the good stuff. Instead, aim for balance. By all means, order the pizza – just make sure you eat the rainbow for the rest of the day. A hearty mix of fruit and veg, lean meat, fish and whole grains will always make you feel amazing.

Go Slow

It’s winter, so what’s the rush? In summer, we’re all so excited to do and see it all. But at this time of year, it’s okay to stay in. The key to feeling good in winter is to go slow. If you want to stay in, stay in. If you want to lie in, lie in. Don’t pressure yourself to do it all – or even anything at all. Just relax. Spring will be here before you know it.

Take A Bath

The best way to beat the blues? Soak them away. Nothing beats an indulgent bubble bath, complete with candles, bath salts, and even a little wine on the side. Dig out a brand-new book, play your favourite podcast, or start a new series. As long as you lay back and relax, the winter blues and all those tedious worries will soon float away.

Indulge Yourself

And after you’ve started the pamper off on the right foot, indulge a little more. Feeling good in winter can seem complex. Like it should be hard to figure out. But it’s simple. Just be good to yourself. A little self-care can go a long way. Lathering on a thick body cream, using a hair mask, giving yourself a facial – it all stimulates the positive brain chemicals we all need to get a boost.

Try Out Hygge

The Danish do it right. Getting cosy and comfortable is the best way to bring about a positive mood. And they call it hygge. It’s one of the best ways to work on your wellbeing, and feel good in general. So, get on board. Light some candles (or the fire, if you have one), enjoy a hot drink (we prefer hot cocoa), put on your comfiest clothes, and read a book. Maybe even go for a long walk or bike ride. It’s this kind of wellness work that really kicks the winter blues into touch.
