Is there anything scarier than the thought of trying something new? Or going somewhere new? Or just stepping out of your very comfortable, extremely safe and reliable everyday routine?

Absolutely not.

It’s truly terrifying to think about shaking things up and putting yourself out there. Whether this is in a professional or personal setting, stepping out of your social comfort zone can be a huge deal.

But that doesn’t mean you should continue to play it safe and stay wrapped up in your security blanket.

It’s okay to feel afraid but still push yourself a little. Especially if it takes you a step closer to your dream life.

And now that things are starting to open up a little in the world, you may be feeling wary. But here’s six ideas to help you step out of your social comfort zone a little.

1. See A Close Friend

As much as this won’t sound all that innovative, if you’re wanting to dip your toes in a tad, seeing a close friend is a good place to start.

Maybe you’ve not been all that social of late? It can be a little overwhelming to dive headfirst into something big and different. So making more plans is a good place to start.

It doesn’t have to be anything wild, but simply having a range of plans in place to see a close friend or two is a good idea.

Go for a walk. Have lunch. Go shopping together. Just do something to get yourself back into the habit of being out and about and seeing people again.

2. Go To A New Place

There’s something so reassuring about the tried and testing. But it can also get very boring, very quickly.

Sometimes, all it takes for you to do something a little different. It can really open up your experiences in life.

Trying a new restaurant. Visiting a new part of the country. Meeting a new friend. All of it seems so small, but each step can have big results for you.

When you’re looking to step outside of your social comfort zone, even the smallest steps can help you to do it.

3. Join An Online Group

The idea of being social often brings real life scenarios to mind. But being more social doesn’t have to be done in real life.

It’s okay to want to put yourself out there online more. You might find that you can meet new people, try new things, and even enjoy real life friendships and experiences as a result.

So why not join an online group? Think about your interests here and start searching.

Do you love to paint? Or maybe you’re a fan of a particular sport or genre of music? Finding like-minded people online could really help you to step out of your comfort zone and do more in life.

4. Start A New Hobby

One of the best ways to push yourself socially is to start a new hobby. We often think of hobbies being for children. But there’s no reason why you can’t pick something up in your 20’s, 30’s or 40’s.

Are you creative? Would you love to try drawing, sculpting, sewing, or something else creative? Why not learn? Joining a class or group could help you socially as well as leaning something new.

There’s also picking up a sport, learning a language, and even trying out gardening could be fun for you. This might help you to put yourself out there more and be comfortable doing new things and meeting more people.

5. Go On A Date

Does the idea of dating terrify you? Or are you ready to take a step closer to your forever happiness? It could be that going on a date is exactly what you need to do right now.

Online dating can seem like a minefield, but you have to be open to it. And be specific too! Connecting with other singles could help to build your confidence in love again – as well as socially.

Looking for Surrey dating opportunities, or wherever you’re based, could be a good start. You can even start with a video date if you’re a little wary. It could be what you need to ease yourself in.

Or, if you’re ready to really push yourself, during your local or Surrey dating journey, you could look to plan some fun dates for the summer. Horseback riding, an escape room, or even a cooking class could help you to tick off every single point in this list!

It can even help you to understand relationships and the human connection more. From understanding communication styles to asking what are pheromones – it can help you to educate yourself and feel more empowered with the knowledge.

6. Do Something Bigger

Or maybe you love the idea of doing something bigger? Travel is still a little sketchy right now, but who’s to say you couldn’t plan the trip of your dreams?

Maybe you want to do your own version of Eat, Pray, Love? Or do you want to explore a new place for a few weeks? This could be something that is just ideas in the works for now, but that’s okay.

Sometimes, we just need to get something together to help us learn and grow and get to where we want to be.
