How do your mornings go? Do you wake up and immediately feel stressed because you’ve got so much to do? Or do you wake up feeling happy and calm, ready to take on the day? For most of us, it’s the former, even though we would dearly like it to be the latter.
You might think it’s impossible to have a calm morning when there are tasks to be done and perhaps other household members to take care of as well. However, it can be done, and it is well worth putting some plans into action to make it happen. Read on to find out more about how you can have a calmer morning.
Wake Up Earlier
One of the biggest reasons we feel stressed and rushed in the mornings is that we simply don’t leave ourselves enough time to do everything calmly and unhurriedly. We often get out of bed at the latest possible moment we can do so, before having to get washed and dressed, have something to eat and drink, feeding children and pets in some cases, gathering bags and documents and other important information together, and rushing out of the door (or into a home office – even without a commute, however, you can still feel very rushed).
It’s far better to go to bed earlier so you can wake up earlier, giving yourself more time to get things done. Imagine how different things would be if you had even just an extra thirty minutes to yourself each morning. You could shower, do some yoga, eat a proper breakfast instead of grabbing a snack on the way out of the door, and start your day much more calmly. This would set the tone for the rest of the day and make it much easier to cope with.
Prepare The Night Before
Whether or not you decide to get up earlier or stay in bed longer, the more you can prepare the night before, the less you’ll have to do in the morning. You can get your outfit ready, so you don’t have to spend time searching for clothes; you can have a shower in the evening rather than in the morning; you can write a to-do list, so you get started on work as soon as you get to your desk. You can even prepare an overnight French toast casserole recipe so that breakfast is ready for you as soon as you get up.
Not only will preparing as much as possible the night before save you time, but it will also help you feel more in control, which will benefit your peace of mind and mental health.
Don’t Go On Social Media
Social media has its place. It’s great for marketing if you own a business, for example, and if you find it hard to keep up with friends and family, you can instantly see what they are doing. You can also join groups and have fun with people you’ll never even meet in real life. However, social media also has its downsides, including the fact that it can make you feel very negative and it wastes a lot of time.
Rather than hopping straight onto Facebook or Instagram as soon as you wake up, wait until you have a morning break at work, for example. In this way, you’ll gain a lot of time back in the morning that you can put to good use, and you’re less likely to see something that will upset you and disrupt your whole day.
